Autobiography

My name is Catherine J. Rivera but people call me Cathy. I am 17 years old. I was born in December 8, 1992. I was born at the Metropolitan Hospital in Los Angeles. I am 5’8. I go to City Honors College Preparatory Charter School in Inglewood. This is my last year in high school and I am exciting to start a new chapter in my life.

I have lived in a couple of placed over the years. When I was born, my parents sat that we lived in a couple apartment building close to downtown Los Angeles. After the earthquake in ’94, we moved to an apartment on Wilton Pl. We lived in that building until I was 12 because our apartment caught on fire. I didn’t want to leave my school because I was doing so good there, I would be awarded with certificates every year but my mom told me it was time to move on. After the fire incident we moved to an apartment in Inglewood. I went to Highland Elementary my 5th grade year. That is where I started to meet different types of people. I saw how some people would treat me. I started to hang around more with African Americans in 5th grade because the Latinos were always judging me. I didn’t go back there my 6th grade year because they transferred me to Parent. I started to play basketball my 6th grade year. I started to love basketball more and more after that year because we won the championship. We went undefeated. I met my best friends in 6th grade. They are still my best friends today and I love them dearly, Christian Garland and Diego Castro. They have always pushed me to strive for the best and they have always succeeded. We always help one another and I can say that without those two, I have no idea how my middle and high school years would have gone. After my seventh grade year, my mom decided to move to a house on La Brea, so I lived there for 2 years. When I was in 7th grade, I got injured. I dislocated me knee while we were practicing. That was the most horrible experience in my life. I couldn’t play for the rest of the year. I had to sit on the bench and it hurt more because I was captain. I try to see everything on the bright side though. I attended Parent until 8th grade. I always had good grades and I was very popular since I was captain of the basketball team. Everybody said that they loved me because I was like a big teddy bear. I look mean but in reality I am one of the nicest people you will ever meet. I am always laughing and I love clowning around but I know how to get serious when it is time for business.

My 9th grade year, I came to CHCPCS while I was still living in the house. I kept playing basketball but it was not the same as before. It didn’t feel right but I kept going. Before I started my sophomore year, I was having too many problems at home with my mother and her boyfriend so I decided to live with my dad and his wife in Paramount. Moving here was a big step in my life and sometimes I still question whether it was the right decision but I know that I cannot live in the past so I try not to think about it. I kept playing basketball but I started to mess up my knee even more so I had to slow down. I met my roll dawg my sophomore year. He is another person that has impacted my life greatly, Daniel Holcomb. Throughout my sophomore year, I was going through a lot of emotional problems and he helped me feel better. He always checked up on me especially since we went to the same school. He was the one that taught me how to be and he helped me evolve into a better person.

I lost a lot of friends my junior year. I was going through a phase where I did not care about anybody but myself. Nobody mattered. I was mean to a lot of people that I cared about but for some reason I feel glad that I acted the way I did because I believe that if somebody was really your friend, they would stick by your side no matter the situation in your friendship. It opened my eyes in who really was there for me. I learned that in this life, you have to succeed because if you do not succeed then there was no point in living.

It is my senior year and I am excited to say that I am ready to take the next step. I stopped playing basketball but the love I have for it is and always will be there. I started to work instead to try and have some extra change in my pocket. I like to work; it is teaching me the responsibility of having a job. It feels good. I am going through some obstacles but I then I always tell myself this quote, “Rise and rise again until lambs become lions.” I am going to keep falling but I will not stop getting up until I become a lion. I will succeed. My motivation and enthusiasm will help me get to success.

Short Story Majic In Paradise

Majic lived in Basketball Paradise. In this paradise all the kids that love basketball come here. There are basketballs everywhere. They come in different patterns colors and names. The reason why everybody loved coming here was because every basketball had their own special powers. The little kids come here and pick their first basketball.
When Majic was a baby, her parents were taken away by two twin boys that wanted their own unique basketballs. Majic had to grow up all on her own.

“I wish my parents were here so I can ask them questions,” cried Majic.

All of the other basketballs made fun of Majic because she was not fully filled with air and no little kid would ever choose to Majic to be their special basketball.

Majic would sit on the rack everyday and watched the other basketballs bounce around having fun.

“I wish I could have special powers like the others so somebody can choose me,” wished Majic.

The other basketballs made her cry when they told her she would never be like them.

“You are a LOSER!” “You don’t have special powers like we do.” “Ha-ha!” The basketballs said.

One day, a strange guy came to Majic’s rack.

“I wonder what that grey thing with a handle is. What does that do?” Majic wondered.

The guy picked Majic up and filled her with air. She was so scared. She didn’t know what was happening.

“I feel so weird. What is he doing to me?” Majic thought.

When he was done, Majic felt brand new. She wanted to try out her new body. Majic wanted to see if she had special powers or not, but then she got sad. She remembered that basketballs do not find out what their special powers are until the chosen little kid comes and picks them.

“Aww man, I can bounce and play now, but I do not know what my special powers are. I hope I get chosen soon.”

Majic waited on her rack hoping that the right person would pick her.
Majic waited day by day hoping, but no luck. The other basketballs kept telling her that she was never going to get chosen.

“Why don’t you just give up? Nobody is going to want you, you are not good enough and you are ugly! What an ugly hat!”

She was going to give up until one day one day a little girl with two pony tails came in. the little girl had basketball shorts on and a basketball sweater. The little girl’s name was Emily.

Emily came in the store happy because she was about to pick the basketball that she was going to use for the rest of her life. Emily walked through the aisles but she didn’t find anything she liked. She went to the last aisle and a black hat caught her eye. Emily got closer and saw Majic, she fell in love.

Emily did not look any further because she knew that Majic was the basketball for her. Emily took her home and started practicing right away. Majic finally realized what her special powers were but then she realized that Emily did not pick her because of her special powers. Emily picked her because of Majic’s hat.

“She likes me the way I am and not because I have special powers. I was special before and I still am.”

From that day on, Majic never doubted herself and her powers. She worked as hard as she could and it paid off. Majic made Emily’s handling skills much greater and she makes most of her shots. Emily was the best girl basketball player there was thanks to Majic. Emily went to the WNBA and took Majic along with her no matter where she went.

Persuasive Essay 9 - Cafeteria Food

Persuasive Essay 9 – Some people think that school cafeterias should be required to provide low-fat and/or vegetarian lunch options to accommodate the eating habits of all students. Do you agree or disagree? Explain your position and use specific reasons and examples as support.

Everybody has a different eating habit. If people liked the same thing, everybody would be eating the same type of food. It is not like that though because there are skinny people, fat, vegans, vegetarians, meat lovers etc. everybody has different types of taste buds. Some people may hate fruits but then they might love vegetables and vice versa. You cannot think that every person in this world has the same likes when it comes to food. I think that cafeterias should offer different types of food to please everybody.
When it comes to kids and lunch, which is the time where you cannot think that they might like the same type of food. Kids are so picky that they do not just eat anything because they are given it. They do not know how to settle for what they have. Kids want what they desire not what other people think is best for them. A lot off kids do not like the type of food that cafeterias offer because the food does not appeal to them. The smell does not smell right to them, it does not look right to them, and then they do not believe that it is going to be good because they think that cafeteria food is county food and it is nasty.
In school, every kid has a different type of like when it comes to food. Some kids love having meant in their food, like me. I have to have meat in all of my meals. I do not feel satisfied if I do not have meat. I love to eat fruit but I do not like all types of vegetables. I like to have a fruit on the side when I am eating lunch. I hate it when they do not have fruit and I have to eat a vegetable. When I do not have what I like, sometimes I do not even eat the lunch because I think that it is nasty. When I do not eat, I get mad because I stay hungry and I have to go to class that way.
Besides the people that like to eat meat, there are also people that are vegetarians. Vegetarians hate meat and do not like any of their foods to even be made with meat. I think that cafeterias have to respect the eating decisions of all of the kids. They need to have vegetarian food to please those types of kids because if they do not, the kids will not eat. It is bad when kids do not eat because then the kids get sleepy and are not able to pay attention and then they start slipping in class. When they start slipping, their grades start falling and then that is when the parent gets involved because they are getting mad that their child’s grades are falling. Cafeterias need to respect that kids do not like to eat fat foods. Some kids hate greasy foods. They like to eat low fat yogurt. They might be the type that loves to work out and love to keep their body fit. When they try to keep their body fit, they are big when it comes to eating healthy. If they do not eat healthy, it throws off their whole lifestyle.
I think that everybody has a different eating habit and that they all should be respected. Everybody needs to eat something different because they like different things. Cafeterias need to respect it and they need to give out different types of foods to satisfy the needs of the different students.

Settings - My Living Room

The place that I chose was my living room. I chose my living room because I did everything in my living room. We had a big screen TV that I used everyday. I watched so many moves, it’s insane. I had my toys in the living room. My toy chest took a whole corner of the living room. I had books, toys, and different supplies. I had so many toys that my friends would come to my apartment so we can play. The sun shines in the living room. The living room was the brightest room in the house. My mom kept it clean with the windows open because the sun hit our house since we were on the second floor. We had wooden floors and furniture. We had my toy chest in one corner, the TV in the other corner, the couches on the other two corners and then a coffee table in the middle of the living room.

Persuasive Essay #8

Many People immigrate to the U.S. because they believe that it is better than their native country. In fact, many people believe that the United States is the best country in the world. Do you agree? Why or why not?

Over the years, my family from another country always tells me how lucky I am to be living in the United States. At first, I thought that I was lucky, but now I am starting to believe that they are the lucky ones. The United States has changed a great deal in the past twenty years. I think that right now, the United States is not the best country in the world because of chaos that we are in.
The united states are in a depression. We have been trying to come up from this economic depression for years now. There is a great abundance of people that have lost their jobs because of this depression. Jobs are harder to find now because of the budget cuts. Teachers are not being paid what their salary consists of. The price of gas changes every couple of months. The price goes up and down then up and down again. A lot of businesses have closed down because they are not making enough money. There are barely any banks left because a lot of them have filed bankruptcy. Everything in the United States is going down the drain because the government cannot fix the crisis that Americans are gong through right now.
Education is very different very different in the united states as well. Public schools have suffered greatly. The government does not give the needed funding for the schools to provide books, computer labs, and different supplies. A lot of teachers have been laid off by budget cuts, so that means that the students rarely learn because they lack the teacher. A lot of kids do not even go to school anymore because they find it pointless. Schools have evolved to something different now. Colleges are suffering a lot too. They have to lower the amount of people that they accept into their schools because they do not have the proper funding to support these students.
This is not a good country to live in because if you are in the middle class, you are struggling. If you do not have money saved up already, you are going to struggle. This country is a lot about money. Poor people have become worst than they already were. Everybody is struggling. People that immigrate would have a very hard time to get on their feet if they come here. The United States is also going into a war too. The Americans never know when somebody might try to hurt us again like 9/11.
I think that at this point in time, the way that the Americans are struggling, the United States is not a good country to live in or to even think about coming to. I think that there are better countries to migrate to. People can make better choices and the United States is not the better choice right now.

Cats Vs Dogs

Cats and dogs are two different types of animals. They are both small and big. They come in all sizes. They come in different colors and different type of features. They both have some features that they share. They have a lot of differences though. For some reason, cats and dogs hate each other. Depending on the cat, is how the cat acts? Some cats are really nice cute and fluffy. While some cats are wild, moody and mean. Dogs are lovable too. Dogs are usually bigger than cats. Some dogs are there to protect their owners. Some dogs on the other hand, are house dogs. Cats and dogs can both make house pets but cats make a better house pet. Some cats are calmer than dogs. They like to lie around and eat. They get fat and just chill. They know how to act right and they act just right. Dogs are more rowdy. They are more hyper than cats. They like to jump around and run around.

Dressing Formally Vs. Dressing Informally

When you dress for a formal occasion that is when you are usually going to a party, get together, or if you are going to work. Women usually wear nice skirts with a nice fitted shirt and some high heels. They can wear nice slacks. They can also wear dresses. Jeans and sneakers are not clothes that you wear if you are going to a formal occasion. Guys wear he easy stuff. I believe that they have an easy outfit because they can just wear slacks, ties and nice shoes. That is what people wear when you go to a formal occasion. When you go to an informal occasion, people can wear whatever they want. You can wear jeans, shorts, sneakers, t-shirts, Crew necks, hoodies, hats and etc. Informal wear is usually what you feel is comfortable
